FRCs Ultimate Ascent Puts all Four FIRST Programs Underway!

FIRST_Homepage_Ascent_graphicsIt’s official – with the kick-off of the 2013 FIRST Robotics Competition, Ultimate Ascent,  earlier today, all four FIRST K-12 programs are underway in Florida and nationwide! The intense six week FRC build, this year throws a bunch of old rules out the building, with new drive train possibilities, new components, and a whole new game!  Teams all over the country and internationally gathered together in schools, arenas, homes, Boys & Girls Clubs, 4H centers, and wherever they could to watch the 2013 Season Kick-off.

At the Orlando Science Schools, one of three kick-off locations in Florida, 14 teams came from across central Florida to pick up their Kit watching Grant Imahara videoof Parts and see the kick off. While they waited for the kick off, they sat in on some great presentations on solid design processes and good drive trains, courtesy of hosting team, Clockwork Mania . We’ll be archiving the presentations on our Library page soon.

considering drive trains Now it’s nose to the grindstone for a frenetic six weeks of building before it’s tools down on February 19.

So right now, all over Florida, students in kindergarten through high school are hard at work researching, designing, building, programming and doing outreach in Jr. FIRST LEGO League (Jr. FLL) , FIRST LEGO League (FLL) , FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC),  with students in the latter three vying for coveted spots, via their Regional events, in the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, MO in April.

If things are heating up in Florida, it’s all that brain power – the collective intellectual and creative energy of nearly 10,000 young people enthusiastically building and learning as they go, developing the teamwork and technical skills to create a better future for themselves, and for us!

Go teams!

FLL Update: Inspired by Example, FLL Global Innovation – Jan. 2013

Print–>Inspired by Example
We want to take a moment to refocus the FLL community on one of the core concepts of FIRST LEGO League. Lately, we have noticed some community members, albeit well-intentioned community members, post solutions for the current seasons’ Robot Game and robot design via social media. While sharing is an important part of FLL, we strongly urge all who post this information to take a close look at what they are posting. The goal of sharing is to inspire others and to let them experience and celebrate their own learning process. We encourage all teams to share tips on the FLL Challenge and respectfully request that solutions be discovered on an individual basis. We also encourage teams who find inspiration from the FLL community to use that inspiration to develop their own innovative solutions to solve Robot Game missions. Thank you.

 –> SENIOR SOLUTIONS(SM) Registration Closed (US/CAN)

Wow! Over 13,100 teams in the US and Canada registered for the 2012 SENIOR SOLUTIONS season. That’s over a 15% increase from the FOOD FACTOR(TM) season. We expect another several thousand teams around the world on top of that. That’s approximately 170,000 kids from about 70 countries that will experience FLL this season.
A huge thank you to all of our partners and committed volunteers. This couldn’t happen without you! With team registration exceeding our anticipated goal of 12,600 teams, FLL Operational Partners are working to ensure teams have the opportunity to attend an official FLL event in the region.  Operational Partners are working with event locations and organizers to coordinate and confirm details for these additional events in their regions and we ask all teams for their patience and understanding if it takes a bit of time to get these details to teams.
